Lisa Cox entered the hospitality industry in 1979 as part of the opening team of the Four Seasons Hotel, Washington, D.C. During a management training program requiring that she work in every department, it was in the kitchen where she met her husband, Mark. Committed to transferring to the Four Seasons Houston Center property where she was Assistant Director of Human Resources, soon after, Mark visited her in Houston and saw the potential for a chef in a free standing restaurant. He chose to move to Houston, and did so in 1982. Lisa left the Four Seasons Hotel prior to her marriage to Mark and after, took a position as a personnel recruiter for the hospitality industry. Two years later she became a fulltime mom to their son, and because of Mark’s demanding career, sometime working seven days a week, stayed home for ten years. Anxious to return to work and with her son in school most of the day, Lisa suggested to Mark that they open their own restaurant. Lisa felt confident that Mark would be successful with his15 years of experience in high profile restaurants and with both their knowledge of opening new properties. Lisa assisted Mark in their business proposal and with finding a location that would be a destination restaurant for Houston diners and offer a casual, comfortable neighborhood atmosphere. Mark and Lisa found the perfect spot—a former church from the 1920’s—and proceeded to open on July 10, 1997. Lisa handles the administrative, personnel, promotional and back-of-the-house duties while Mark strives to create a unique menu. Lisa serves as Treasurer for Les Dames d’Escoffier Houston Chapter, an international women’s organization comprised of those who are leaders in the culinary field. |
